Breast Reduction Incisions
During your breast reduction surgery, Sacramento plastic surgeons Dr. Kaufman and Dr. Clark will remove fat and breast tissue and reduce the skin envelope. They keep the nipple-areola complex connected to a nerve and vascular attachment called a pedicle (either a superior or inferior pedicle). They can then reshape your breast to achieve a more perky, attractive mound while preserving nipple function.
The incisions required to reduce the skin envelope inevitably leave scars, and those scars can be "lollipop" or "anchor" shaped. In either case there is an incision around the areola - which in most cases is made smaller - and a vertical line from the 6 o'clock position on the areola down to the chest wall.
In some cases of more extensive reduction, the incision is continued along the breast crease, called the inframammary fold (IMF). Most often that scar is very well hidden in the natural fold of the breast.
Whether you have "lollipop" or "anchor" incisions during your breast reduction in Sacramento, you'll probably find the resulting scars very acceptable. After a few months, your scars should fade considerably. View some of our breast reduction before and after photos to get an idea of what to expect.
